Elgin Eco Association Plans
Ski and Snowshoe Festival
for Saturday, February 24th
The Elgin Eco Association will hold its annual Ski and Snowshoe Festival on Saturday, February 24th in the scenic hills and vales of the Elgin area. A hearty country supper will follow at the Elgin Fire Hall Community Centre.
The EEA Ski and Snowshoe Festival, co-sponsored by Dairy Farmers of Canada (Maritimes), can be enjoyed by young and old, families, groups and individuals. Registration will take place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Elgin Fire Hall Community Centre. Maps will be provided. A $10.00 adult registration fee will include access to designated snowshoe and ski trails, plus a supper of baked beans or chili served between 4 and 6 p.m. Children under 8 years, $5.00. Meal only, $6.00.
Winter sports enthusiasts will have the choice of three cross country trails. The 1 km. Bear Trail provides an option for the young and novice skier. The 4 km Acadian Trail, with a moderate rating, crosses field and forest. Riverside Trail, an easy to moderate 4+ km. return, follows the Pollett River which is viewable from portions of the trail.
EEA’s Mapleton Hiking Trail , a moderate 2.5 km. loop, will be open for those who wish to snowshoe a varied and fascinating forest-scape. The Tucker Mountain snowshoe circuit, located off River Road, offers a choice of two or four kilometre loops with some climbing.
In the event of inclement weather, the storm date will be Saturday, March 10th. To inquire, check out the Eco Association website at
www.eea.ca.tf. Phone Moranda at 756-2518 or e-mail elgineco@ hotmail.com . On Festival Day, please contact Elgin Country Market, 756-3524.

FEEDBACK: 2006 EVENT
Some of the comments from this year’s
TOUR of ELGIN:
This was so well-organized – such a positive environment. Awesome volunteers!
So much climbing!!!
Course was great. Rest stops were nice.
Beautiful scenery, painful climbs. Needs some more single track.
Great event – nice to see so many volunteers involved.
Well marked course.
The breakfast and especially the supper are great, but a balance between this course and last year’s would be perfect.
Well-marked!!! Thanks to all!!
Should add a single speed division for ‘07.
I liked 40 km course last year. I love single track: more next year please!
More single track!! Beautiful weather, scenery, people.
Would like to spend more time in the woods.
A little more single track going down would be nice.
This is an excellent event that I look forward to all year.
Had a blast – very well-organized. Awesome food. Spectacular volunteers and organizers. Thank you!!!
Great weather, great food, great trails.
Just a bit too wet for the first 40 km. to make the event exceed my expectations. Well-organized event.
Outstanding organization and support.
Event was well-organized; signage is very good. Hospitality was exceptional.
At age 49, this was my first event. It was an unbelievably fine experience.
Course is slightly too mellow. It should be a combination of the ‘05 and ’06 courses. More technical would be great.
Course marking was better/excellent this year.
Loved the changes to the last 40 km. Great community participation.
Love the community involvement. Good job!
Enjoyed the maple cotton candy. I had fun.
I liked the course better last year, but this one was fun, especially the single track and second half.
Congratulations to the organizers of this awesome event and thank you to the people of Elgin . . .
Overall, this event is a highlight of the season.
